Bialetti’s Moka Express is easily one of the most recognisable pieces of kitchenware, let alone coffee gear, that you could own. Since Alfonso Bialetti’s first Moka pot left his Piedmont workshop in Piedmont in 1933, the geometric little coffee maker has become all but synonymous with Italian coffee culture. To celebrate the storied heritage of the Moka Express, Bialetti has collaborated with another iconic Italian brand, Dolce and Gabbana, to produce a strikingly unique Moka Express set. Because few things go quite so well together as high-fashion and coffee. 

This set features a 6-cup Moka Express (check the size guide below if that size category isn’t practically useful to you) and a set of 3 porcelain cups, all bedizened in the kind of gorgeous Mediterranean fresco pattern that you’d find on the walls off a Florentine chapel. The set also includes three elegant silver stirrers that sport Bialetti’s iconic mustachioed man logo. Aesthetically the whole set is sure to stun any guests when you serve their after-dinner coffee, as is the typical Italian ritual. 

Practically speaking, this Moka Express itself makes short, concentrated cups of coffee – meant to replicate the Italian espresso bar experience at home – just as well as any other. Simply fill the lower chamber with water, fill the basket with fine-ground coffee (don’t “tamp” it though!), heat it on the stove with the lid open so that you can see when your coffee starts boiling through, and turn off the heat when the coffee’s colour starts getting lighter. Then simply serve your delicious coffee in your Blu Mediterraneo set’s accompanying and fittingly stylish porcelain cups. Bellissimo! 

Size guide

The Bialetti Moka Express comes in a variety of sizes - each cup corresponds roughly to a 30 to 40ml concentrated shot, and most people tend to like doubles. That means that this particular Moka Express can make around ~240ml of coffee. To make a longer drink, many people will dilute the concentrate for an Americano style coffee.

How to care for your Moka Express

Let the Moka Express cool down before cleaning it. Once cool, take it apart completely, rinse it, give it a wipe and dry it thoroughly. Do not put it in the dishwasher or use abrasives. Especially with this painted limited edition design, please do not put it in the dishwasher!
